Our local staff
– Area Manager
Dorcas manages all our various schools projects, from identifying new schools for us to support, to delivering solar light libraries. She maintains regular contact with all our schools and visits frequently, to encourage the students in their studies, gather feedback as to the difference the lights have made, check the lights are working and replace any that aren’t, as long as they have been well looked after. She liaises with the relevant teachers and makes sure they are rotating the lights amongst the students according to various criteria as developed with each school. She reports back regularly to the Directors in the UK and is our presence in each of the schools. Dorcas has a background in education and customer service.
– Technical Manager
John Ngunjiri is our technician. He assembles, services and repairs our Mwezi lights, operating from our Mwezi Foundation office in Mombasa. John also visits the orphanages regularly to service the room lights and install new ones where appropriate. John manages stock levels and keeps a tally of all the lights we have donated, collected for servicing and re-donated. We guarantee each light for at least two years, but in practice much longer.
John has a certificate in Electrical and Electronic (Technician). Apart from work, he loves spending time with his family and watching football.
The Mwezi Foundation hub is in Likoni, Mombasa. Our staff enjoy a good quality office where all the lights are assembled and serviced and where they can file reports and hold meetings.

The schools we support
As at March 2019 we support 23 schools around Mombasa with light libraries or room lights. We are hoping to increase significantly the number of light libraries and room solar lights that we currently donate. We monitor each school’s results and keep a note of the top performers from each school, to congratulate them and to see how their careers pan out.
